Client report definition Reference

An .rdlc file contains a report definition in the Report Definition Language for client-side processing. The XML file describes the layout, the data regions, and the parameters of a report. The ReportViewer control renders the report inside a .NET application, without a report server. The related .rdl format targets SQL Server Reporting Services. Visual Studio contains the report designer.

A file extension is only a part of the file name. It does not give a guarantee about the format or the content of a file. But on Windows, the extension selects the program that opens the file.
