XSLT stylesheet Reference

An .xslt file contains an XSLT stylesheet, exactly like the shorter extension .xsl. The stylesheet transforms an XML document into a different structure, for example HTML or plain text. An XSLT processor applies the template rules to the input. The longer extension makes the content explicit. XSLT is a standard of the W3C.

A file extension is only a part of the file name. It does not give a guarantee about the format or the content of a file. But on Windows, the extension selects the program that opens the file.
